    Hello,

Just found your website. I do not have any experience collecting or identifying mushrooms. However, I have a curious mind and an adventurous nature. I would love to become involved with a mycology club in the DFW area. If you have any contacts, I would appreciate it.

Thanks and have a great day.

I’m interested as well but other than Youtube videos and seeing mushrooms on the ground and wondering how quickly I would die if I ate them I have no experience. So Tammy if you find a group or anyone that’s willing to show newbies the ropes please let me know.

I live on a farm southwest of Houston, and would enjoy hunting and/or hosting a hunt for edible mushrooms around here.

Just read your posting, and although it was posted in December 2011, I have only lived in Texas since Aug. 2011. I am a retired Fire Communications Officer from Kansas City Missouri. How far Southwest of Houston are you? I live just south of Hockley, and I would like to learn more about the mushrooming in this area. Sincerely; Gary

I recently moved back to the great state of Texas after 23 yrs in Western Co where mushrooms are bountiful under the right circumstances of course. I’m very interested in learning what types of edible mushrooms are available here, when they’re available and where.

    Thank you!

Yes! I just asked, on another site, if there are any guided mushroom hunting “classes” in the Houston area. I live in Missouri City too but know nothing about identifying mushrooms.

    Hello all,

I’m a Dallas resident and a mushroom fiend and I was wondering if there are any area organizations or just informal groups that organize mushroom hunting classes or activities. I have no experience with foraging and would like to be tutored in it before I go off wandering on my own.

    Best,

    Ross

    Hello all,

I live in Dallas and am eager to begin mushroom hunting. I’m not a practiced forager, so am looking for clubs or organizations that allow neophytes to tag along. I would be happy to travel anywhere in the DFW area or in East Texas.

    Best,

    Ross

Hey does anyone live in San Antonio or Austin? I want a mushroom foraging pal!

    • McCartney says:

Cynthia, morels are happening right now in Austin, and should be in SA. Found 150 today.

I have a daughter who lives in Austin. I plan on going to Austin in June to visit her and want to look in the greenbelts there.

  • Don Kolle says:

I would like to find mushrooms in the San Antonio area especially morels.

Gathering morels in Bosque county now

      • Don Kolle says:

Do you lead hunts? I am on the western side of Bexar county and a small purple gilled mushroom is popping up now. It has sweet earthy smell but I can’t get pollen. I am going to try again. I can send you pictures. Let me know. I have collected a few boletes that I know are safe but did not find any morels. A rancher near Utopia told me he had some on his place in March. Is it too late for morels this year?
I would love to get together with someone local. Contact at donkolle@yahoo.com
        Thanks,
        Don Kolle

    Thanks,
